LinkedIn introduced their new "Seems like AI Slop" button recently, and I think more social platforms are going to start doing the same.
First of all, the button itself: doesn't it strike you as weird that a company of that size would ship a button and label it with the word "slop"? Well, that slop is what differentiates it from reporting all content. It is not "Seems like AI", which a lot of people use to write content for their platform or make visuals, which they know about. The slop is there to flag only the worst of the posts.
On the flagging itself, it is meant to give you a feeling of control, and to help authors write posts properly, but they are also using you for free data annotation. Each of those flags will be taken in as training data for the new version of their 360Brew algorithm. As the platform with the most AI slop content, they need to improve their algorithm fast to eliminate it, and the way they are gathering data with the new button is really interesting.
I think other platforms will follow suit really soon. You are for sure seeing a ton of AI on every single one of them, and that degrades the platform's purpose, so getting ahead of the issue is really important here.
